Freedom of the Press

Freedom of the press is a part of freedom of expression, but also a significant right in and of itself. Press freedom helps to ensure that people can stay informed and plays an important role in holding up government and public institutions to careful scrutiny.

CCLA stands up for freedom of the press  – we have intervened in cases supporting the news-gathering activities of journalists (including the right to keep sources confidential) and the principle that Canada’s courts must be open by default.
