PEI residents prepare to join EI protest coalition

Residents of PEI are joining a coalition is forming to protest the recent changes to the Employment Insurance benefits. Their ultimate goal is to meet with the Human Resources Minister Diane Finley and talk about the serious effects that the changes will have on seasonal employees. In PEI, these changes have significant impact on Islanders as they main areas of work are seasonal, such as fishing, tourism and farming.  There are a lack of jobs that these seasonable employees to turn to during off-season. There is barely anything going on in PEI during the winter and employment is at its lowest.  This is a type of area where encouraging seasonal workers to find new employment will not work to fix the problem.
